Inception movie poster analysis

Inceptions movie poster flatters the complexity of the film. This is shown by the background that has been taken from one of the scenes where Ariadne has forced half of an area to elevate and then eventually fold like a board game onto itself as a result of her subconscious constructing a dream. This is a form of enigma code that catches the audience’s attention immediately. The main cast are spread out across the poster where Ken Watanabe’s Saito is the only character looking directly at the camera. This shows his significance in the film as a central character as opposed to the supporting cast looking away from the camera. However Leonardo DiCaprio’s character Cobb is in the centre of the poster and as well as that his name is in bold and is the largest in size. Also in terms of composition he is in front of the all the other characters in the shot. This shows that he is the main character even if he is not looking at the camera.

Below the main cast it there is a sentence that reads” your mind is the scene of the crime”. This suggests that the film is an action thriller aimed at exploring the idea of subconscious espionage. There is an extreme long shot that shows the characters, surrounding buildings and the backdrop created by Ariadne which allows the audience to get an idea of the films plot without watching it.
