Locations list-Initial ideas

Office-We plan to film in an office where the protagonist will be working. This office will be situated in the sixth form centre of Longsands Academy on the 4th floor. We are planning to include the office in a fast montage of cuts where we see the protagonist as constantly stressed. In the office there will be a hidden bottle of whiskey which he drinks to cope with the stress. Also we plan to implement distractions into the scene to show his frustrations even further such as teenagers banging on the outside of his office window and the clock ticking. This connotes to the audience that he is in a state of psychological deterioration where he is failing to cope with everyday occurrences.

This is a wide shot of the main parts of the office with the large table where our protagonist will be working. In this shot we will see the most important parts of our characters performance including his agitated facial expressions, his fidgeting behaviour and his unrest towards his working life.

This shot features the office desk that is yet unused in the filming but it has conventional miscellaneous items that will feature as background props to give a sense of verisimilitude to this sequence. This will convey to the audience an original and ordinary setting from which we will film.

The white board in this frame is where the kill board will be. The only character in our film will be shown pacing around very frantically looking at the kill board on the white board. The scene will also culminate in our character kicking the filing cabinet.

Our character will also look through these blinds in anger when he hears knocking on the side of the window. We have implemented this to show that he is frustrated and stressed with his work life which will later be shown to spill into his personal life when he repeatedly shouts at his wife.

When I analysed the film trailer for The departed (2006) I noticed that significant portions of the trailer were shown in offices. This makes sense as the police were investigating the main antagonist in the narrative. From my analysis and subsequent collaboration with my media group, we decided to film in an office also because this would primarily connote a place of work in the same way that the offices are used in the departed.

House of group member- We will film the main montage of the film at this house because it is a suitable location to see the main protagonist fractured home life  The montage of shots will increase in pace with the music's tempo and pitch intensifying. This synchronous sound as well as the performance will make the audience believe that something significant will happen further in the narrative because the performance of the protagonist is already disturbing for the audience.

When I analysed the film trailers for Flight (2012) observed alcohol abuse. In Flight's narrative the protagonist is suffering from alcohol abuse which affects his ability to carry out his professional job as a pilot. We wanted to convey this idea in our film trailer so we decided to film the scenes of alcohol abuse to the protagonists house.

In reference to split (2017) the majority of the trailer takes place in a seemingly abandoned place with only the antagonist and the victims residing there. This private sphere is away from the outside world and is a concept that we wanted to apply to our film trailer by having a large portion of our trailer inside the house which will reveal the protagonists underlying alcohol issues to our target audience.

Riverside park which has tremendous natural Greenland will be ideal in foggy conditions. This is because we will use eerie diegetic music in conjunction with the on screen content. Forest environments are a stereotypical location for thrillers because people have been socially influenced to anticipate fear in dark forests due to increasing paranoia about unknown environments.

This is a pathway at Riverside park that we filmed at for the main sequence of our film. In the shot to the right is our main actor in the film.

  1. Good, but can you link any of these ideas to your extensive initial research into existing trailers (ie where did your inspiration come from) .
