Evaluation task 2

2.How effective is the  combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

Above is a voiceover of the text in this evaluation post which provides a more fluid and instantaneous form in which my viewers will be able to view this task. The first image in this post is my magazine cover for delirium and the second image is my film poster for delirium which is also referenced.
The text below is nearly identical to the text in the voiceover which I included in the post as an alternative way of viewing the evaluation post.

My magazine cover for Delirium features very similar conventions to my official film trailer and my film poster. This is evident by the dark theme in each text. For my magazine cover I have an original backdrop of a forest with a black and white effect applied which will also present as a form of enigma code as a section of the trailer does occur in that forest. All of my texts feature the slogan ''Can you trust yourself''. This branding synergy will be very memorable for my target audience because the slogan will be seen on 3 separate media products. The slogan itself is a direct reference to our plot because our central lead is in a frustrated state of confusion that leads to him doubting himself. The masthead title 'Media Nation' features a blue globe with the continents removed providing a transparent view to the background of the cover which I included to show that the trailer and my magazine could be viewed worldwide.

I picked the specific picture of our lead on the front of the magazine cover because it is particularly menacing and features our lead holding a bottle of wine which again is an example of an enigma code that will hint our audience in regards to the plot of our film. He is portrayed as being a victim in our trailer which is a direct countertype to the image shown on the front cover. This is implied by his daunting facial expression and the composition of the image where his is slightly elevated making him seem very powerful and in control.
Other micro elements included in the magazine cover include 5 Gold stars and an elongated barcode which are both vital components that help people to recognise that it is a magazine cover.
The main lead in our film is accompanied by one additional actor and a voice actor which is not pictured in any of my ancillary tasks but is mentioned in my film poster in my billing blocks section. I did not deem it necessary to add photos of them because the focus of my ancillary text is on Paul Leigh.

My film poster is drastically more minimalistic compared to my magazine front cover but for a good reason: I wanted to show the main  image clearly on a pitch black backdrop to dramatise the image. However it is very similar to my magazine cover in many ways as it also includes 5 star reviews which are this time provided by secondary magazines, It again features the signature DELIRIUM title and the production company logo as well as the release date for the film. The release date has been glossed as well as having the colour scheme faded with a gradient tool to create a more visibly impacting effect. It has already been established from my previous blog activity that the genre of my work is thriller. This has been reflected in my film poster by the very conventional fonts, colour scheme and layout of my film poster. However I did choose to implement an outer glow effect for my slogan which is typically conventional of horror films. I chose to do this because it stands out from the rest of the poster and also reflects the gloomy and dark world in which  our protagonist is represented.
I have also included billing blocks with the names of all the people involved in the making of our film trailer for Delirium which is standard iconography of film posters as well as film trailers. This is significant because billing blocks have also been included in our film trailer so branding synergy has linked the two products together as the same production crew are mentioned.

Both my magazine cover and film poster feature my groups production company logo MORTEM PRODUCTIONS which is a central and standard part of all ancillary texts in film productions. This will again allow my audience to recognise our group as the makers of the product. In addition both of my ancillary texts feature a release date which is the 9.2.17 which is essential if our viewers wanted to watch our film at cinema venues but also to popularise our product to our audience. Our primary target audience would be teenagers of our age so the release date is very convenient as those students would be near the February half term break giving us a prime window in which we could display our film.

Overall the combination of my Main product and ancillary texts I believe is very effective as they have all supplemented the vision that my production group desired which was to show an alternative thriller which involves alcohol abuse, raw emotion and multiple twists in the narrative.
